It's the start of a brand new week.
You're making your way down the hallway, four, three, two steps away from your destination when your friend suddenly runs out of the room and pushes past you. A putrid stench hits your nose seconds later, the air fanned right into your face as the door swings shut. You turn to catch a glimpse of your friend, but...
Well. Whatever happened, you'll find out soon enough.
You push the classroom door open.
Unsurprisingly, a blank faced boy waits for you inside. You switch gears almost immediately, smiling even as the stench grows stronger and stronger with every step you take into the classroom. As you open your mouth to offer a friendly greeting, a familiar bubbly, pink rectangle materializes in the space between the two of you. The boy doesn't seem to notice it, and you're so accostumed to the sight, you don't even spare it a glance as it conveniently puts your words to text.
The boy does not react.
But you ask him if something happened, anyway.
Natsuki's name has barely left your mouth, when
suddenly
you notice
a figure slumped against a chair towards the back of the classroom.
For a moment, you're left speechless. You don't know what to say. You don't know how to react. All you can do is stare at the dried, crusty blood on the floor and the decomposing corpse that once used to be your friend. She was your friend, wasn't she? You used to be friends? Even with in this world of finite choices, devoid of free will, weren't you once—?
...
You close your eyes.
You can't even say you're surprised. That's a shame.
